Who are we?

We are Pilot Light TV Festival, Manchester's television festival dedicated to celebrating the best in TV & Web Series from around the world!

Season 5 will take place in May 2020.

At Pilot Light we are dedicated to producing an inclusive, communal TV experience where fans and industry can come together to celebrate the past, present and future of television. In a very similar structure to a traditional film festival, Pilot Light TV Festival is hosted in Manchester over 4 days and consists of screenings featuring all kinds of series, new & old plus exclusive panels featuring the writers, producers, directors, actors and commissioners behind them in addition to vital discussions, workshops and masterclasses around multiple aspects of TV, for both fans and industry members.

In recent years, a large number of the best writers, directors and producers have migrated from Cinema to TV in order to tell the greatest stories in pop culture. These shows are generally produced and seen in the arenas of major content providers such as HBO, AMC, C4, BBC, Netflix and Amazon. In recent years there has been a surge in independently financed TV Pilot and web series production and their popularity with audiences. We function as a TV equivalent of independent film festivals, by finding the best of this new episodic content from around the globe and giving the diverse, talented creative teams behind them opportunities to network with fellow creatives and to place their projects in front of the most important pairs of eyes in TV: the fans and industry professionals.

In four seasons, shows such as Game of Thrones, Westworld, American Gods, Brass Eye, Random Acts of Flyness, I’m Alan Partridge, The Royle Family and Utopia have graced our stage, we have had faces such as Christopher Eccleston, Matt Berry, Sue Johnston OBE, Sean Lock, Armando Iannuchi, Benedict Wong, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Henry Normal and Dennis Kelly welcomed to the festival. We have also formed amazing partnerships with the likes of HBO, CBBC, ITV, Channel 4, UKTV, Walter Presents and Blue Peter on some truly amazing events.

Due to their constant production cycle and consistent place in some many of our lives, we feel TV and Web Series are by far the best mediums for representing the diverse world we live in, and we pride ourselves on screening the best content that serves that mission. Here at Pilot Light we are dedicated to creating a safe, accessible environment where TV fans and industry from all backgrounds can feel represented; whilst celebrating, discovering & discussing all kinds of TV. We are an inclusive environment where intolerance will never be tolerated.

Whilst all of Pilot Light Festival's content is destined for the small screen, we  believe that the communal experience of viewing television is something to be experienced by everyone. Join us for 4 whole days of celebrating and discussing the very best in classic and contemporary Television, meet the cast & creators behind it all and last but not least, remember why we all love TV so much!
