We are very excited to finally announce the first part of the Season 2 line up. Closing the festival this year at Gorilla on May 7th will be our BRASS EYE 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL! This event has been more than a year in the making with S1 alum Michael Cumming and we're very excited to share all the details with you now!
Any fan of Brass Eye knows Fake News is old news. In 1997 Chris Morris created Brass Eye, a satirical fake news programme airing on Channel 4 that broke new ground and instantly became one of the most shocking, controversial & hilariously legendary programmes in the history of British Television.
Upon airing, Brass Eye’s ground breaking satire on sensationalism, news media and social issues of the time became an instant controversial, and comedic legend; the scandal of using real life celebrities & politicians such as Phil Collins, Noel Edmunds and David Amess MP to genuinely promote issues completely fabricated by Morris lead to the ‘Brass Eye Clause’ being created in Ofcom’s Broadcasting guidelines.
In the age of Donald Trump, Fake News and real headlines looking like the work of Chris Morris, Pilot Light TV Festival celebrates Brass Eye’s 20th Anniversary in style as part of their Season 2 Festival Line Up!
In addition to screening all 6 episodes of the original series on the big screen, Pilot Light are very excited to present Brass Eye director Michael Cumming’s new film OXIDE GHOSTS: THE BRASS EYE TAPES.
Made from hundreds of hours of unseen material from his personal archive, director Michael Cumming’s film shares insights into the process of making the legendary TV series. Michael directed both the pilots and the series; and over a two year period, witnessed the highs and lows of Brass Eye’s production & impact from a very personal perspective. Part documentary, part artwork - the film is designed solely for live screenings and features never before seen material. Oxide Ghosts carries the blessing of Chris Morris and has its world premiere at Pilot Light TV Festival Season 2.
Michael Cumming will be in attendance for a Q&A after the film where he promises he will be ‘spilling beans, shattering myths and letting a few cats out of the bag’ surrounding the mystery and controversy of Brass Eye.
When: May 7th, 2pm-8pm.
Where: Gorilla, Manchester.
